After two years I have seen Chetan Bhagat`s book in the New Releases section of the landmark book shop....it was named "Revolution 2020". Some sources say that it had 5lakh pre-orders and most awaited book since all his previous books are best sellers in the nation. Revolution 2020 with a tag line Love.Corruption.Ambition was finally out this month and i bought my copy asap.
I expected a lot from the book since the title is provoking, Chetan finally ended up writing his own stories and this time he narrated story of an young Engineering College Director. The story starts when Chetan meet Gopal Mishra(the Director) in MBA inauguration in the college located near Varanasi and during their chat after the function Chetan finds his story worth writing....
Major part of the story revolves around Gopal(G), Aarti(A) & Raghav(R) and you guessed it right it is a triangle love story. All the three are from same school and G & A are the close friends from the day G had stolen her Chocolate Cake. coming to their characters, Mr.G is not a stranger to the adversities in his life and he fails in his consecutive attempts to get into IIT`s & NIT`s and he finally decides that money is the key to success in life. Where as Mr.R is an Intelligent by birth and gets qualified in all entrance tests and grabs a seat in BHU but he settles as a press reporter because of strong yearning to revolutionize the nation by the year 2020. Miss.A has a strong political BG and she is the most beautiful girl in the town and this is why Mr.G is crazy about her.
To be frank chetan tried another love story but his description of the Ghats in Varanasi and Corruption involved in private education system is fantastic. He even explained how the business is done at Kota (IIT coaching hub) very well and surprisingly he dealt with some of the social issues like Corruption in his writings for the first time. Coming to the story it lost the suspense factor since it is a flash back story and he dragged the ending and it is not definitely a page turner and every thing goes as you expected and this is the huge drawback of the book. It also seems that he had written this book in such a way that films can be easily made based on this story. The script is melodramatic and the story is predictable and you feel bored at certain places. More over the title is not justified according to me since Revolution starts at the pre-climax and suddenly ends after few chapters.
Hope his next book will be a Best seller again since he failed this time and my rating is 2/5.
